How is the Christian metal scene doing?

I haven't been following it actively for some time now, and haven't stumbled on any new releases that would have caught my attention.
So has there been any awesome stuff coming out lately?

I'm not sure which bands classify as "Christian" anymore these days. Especially not the ones I listen to. My poison of choice is still mostly melodic power-prog metal in the vein of Symphony X, Evergrey, Pyramaze, Teramaze, etc and sometimes some MENA-flavoured metal like Myrath and Orphaned Land. I also find myself listening to quite a bit of Nightwish and Epica these days...

I haven't followed it for a while either.
All that I've seen coming out of it has honestly in my opinion been 'meh' for quite some time...

Fleshkiller seems promising.
Drottnar is making some new stuff that sounds really promising.
Slaves BC and Maranatha are both excellent if you like some crust/sludge/hardcore/metal. Not really that new, but they are active.

Other than that there are nothing that has excited me within christian metal for a while.
I guess there isn't much of a scene these days, at least not a very vital and creative one...

Some hardcore from 2017:

I remembered one thing that's fairly recent - Hesychast released their full-length last year, so if you're into atmospheric bm a la Batushka, it's really quite solid.

True. Is there really a difference? Has any of it made a difference? I'm not sure if it made a difference in my life. This weekend, there was a Christian metal fest not far from me...I sat it out. I didn't miss it at all. Had a sense of obligation to go, because it was a Christian event, but that was the thing, all obligation, zero inspiration. ...So I guess that would be an answer on my part. I wish I had a better answer.

I have no idea if Poison Headache classifies as a christian metal band.
But their music is at least a little interesting. :)

My guess would be no. I don't think any of the AILD-guys are christian anymore, or if they ever were. But they are pretty good! Poison Headache that is. Much heavier than you would think.
